Dr. Alan Brookstone, CanadianEMR

Alan is a physician and senior eHealth consultant with national, provincial and regional experience in primary care clinical systems, acute care clinical systems, privacy, data stewardship, and clinician engagement at both the operational and strategic planning levels. He has a broad-based understanding of the healthcare system and the challenges facing physicians, health regions and governments in terms of the implementation and use of Electronic Health Records in provincial and regional settings, and Electronic Medical Records in private practice settings.

Alan has written regularly since 1998 for a number of national publications, including Canadian Healthcare Technology, The Medical Post and Technology for Doctors.  Alan is also the founder and editor of CanadianEMR, an authoritative and widely recognized national resource for physicians, medical office staff, healthcare planners, government organizations, and vendors of EMR systems.

Christine Hampson Ph.D., Asthma Society of Canada

As President and CEO of the Asthma Society of Canada, Christine Hampson works with educators, healthcare providers, health industry partners and communities across Canada to improve awareness and education around the benefits of symptom-free asthma. Christine is an advocate of TELUS’ Asthma Health program, which was developed in partnership with the Asthma Society of Canada, to simplify asthma self-management and facilitate a user-friendly environment that encourages people to self-monitor and better control their illness.

Christine holds a Ph.D. in Medical Geography from McMaster University where she specialized in environment and health research.  She also has extensive experience working in health-related education, federal and provincial politics, including a position as Executive Lead of Strategic Operations for Ontario’s Minister of Health and Long-Term Care from 2004 to 2006.

Janice Murray, TELUS Health Solutions

With over 20 years of experience in the technology and healthcare sectors, Janice is a well-rounded professional resp onsible for external communications at TELUS Health Solutions.  Ms. Murray, well known for her strategic thinking and creativity, proactively promotes TELUS’ suite of solutions that connect stakeholders across the care continuum from hospital to home.

Ms. Murray joined TELUS Health Solutions in early 2009 after managing her own strategic communications company, Fishbowl Communications, for over 13 years.  Prior to going out on her own, Janice held a variety of senior executive positions with Canada’s top three communications consulting firms.

Ms. Murray holds a degree in Psychology from Queen’s University.  In recognition of Janice’s contributions to Weber Shandwick Canada, she was the 1994 recipient of the National Chairman’s Award of Excellence.

Karen has focused her career on helping organizations improve the health and wellness of their employees – which is just good business. She has worked at Shepell•fgi, the leading provider of employee assistance programs and absence and disability management, nearly 10 years. Her own health regime includes eating healthy, travel, walking, reading and spending time with great family and friends. She often appears in the national media, speaking on workplace health and productivity issues, and is a featured speaker at numerous conferences and seminars.

Ernest James, Regal Informatics

Ernest is a computer systems Consultant in the Durham Region (Ontario) with a focus on eHealth systems. He's the founder of Regal Informatics Inc., a company serving to provide unbiased assistance in the implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) in the primary care provider space and Personal Health Records (PHRs) in the consumer space, in Ontario.

Ernest has an extensive computer technology background based on upwards of 25 years with two major technology companies in the Metro Toronto area.

David M.W. Young, Lang Michener  LLP

David Young is a partner in Lang Michener's Toronto office and is Co-chair of its Privacy Law Group and a member of the Competition and Marketing Law Group. David practices commercial and regulatory law with an emphasis on privacy law, marketing, and e-commerce law.

David advises clients on all aspects of privacy law including protection of personal health information, employee privacy, security, consent documentation, access to information and organizational procedures. David participated in submissions to Industry Canada respecting the Review of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. He also participated in submissions to the Ontario Ministry of Government Services respecting Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002 and the draft Privacy of Personal Information Act.

Dr. Jennifer Zelmer, Senior Vice President, Clinical Adoption and Innovation, Canada Health Infoway

Dr. Zelmer is the Senior Vice President, Clinical Adoption and Innovation at Canada Health Infoway. Prior to joining Infoway, she held a series of progressively responsible leadership positions in Canada and abroad, most recently as Chief Executive Officer of the International Health Terminology Standards Organization and Vice President, Research & Analysis at the Canadian Institute for Health Information. Dr. Zelmer received her PhD and her M.A. in Economics from McMaster University and her B.Sc. in Health Information Science from the University of Victoria. In addition to her role at Canada Health Infoway, she is the Editor-in-Chief of Healthcare Policy and is an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Victoria. Dr. Zelmer also serves on a wide range of health-related advisory committees and boards.
